FINTECH Charters expand Financial Inclusion and responsible Innovation

On December 6th, 2016 the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) announced that FinTechs could apply for bank charters, if they were so inclined. Since then the OCC has received many comments regarding oversight of these institutions. In a speech at LendIt USA 2017 this week, Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry addressed some of these concerns and announced that the OCC will be publishing a supplement to its Licensing Manual to clarify the evaluation process for Fintech Charter applications. (LendIt USA 2017 is the largest Lending and Fintech Conference).
