Jamaican, Saint Lucian Bankers Win CAB Scholarships

Castries, Saint Lucia Wednesday, August 6th 2021: The Caribbean Association of Banks (CAB) Inc. has announced the two latest recipients of scholarships to the University of the West Indies (UWI). They are Mr. Darien Miller of Jamaica National (JN) Bank, and Ms. Rochelle Alphonse of Sagicor Finance (Saint Lucia).

Mr. Miller already holds a BSc in Business Administration from the University College of the Caribbean, and he has worked with JN Bank for 13 years, including his current role as a branch sales representative. Ms. Alphonse is an accounts manager at Sagicor, where she has been employed for the past eight years. She also holds an ACCA ( Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification. Both will be pursuing studies towards a BSc in Banking and Finance (Special or Compliance and Corporate Governance) via the UWI Open Campus.

Ms. Wendy Delmar, CEO of CAB, congratulated the awardees:

“We were very pleased with the quality of our applications this year,” she said. “It is fantastic to see colleagues from across the region seeking to further develop themselves with support from CAB. Every such opportunity is another step in improving the standard of our member organisations, and improving the standard of banking across the Caribbean as a whole. Obviously, credentials such as these can serve to make the beneficiaries more marketable, make their organisations more profitable, and increase the scope of innovation and service delivery.”

CAB’s thrust towards member development, support for academic growth, and up-skilling the financial services sector is directly informed by the body’s stated mission – to proactively influence matters of interest to financial institutions through advocacy and education. With a membership numbering over 80 organisations in 20 territories, CAB is designed to support learning.

Employees at member and non-member institutions can discover more about the various education and training initiatives on offer by visiting the CAB website or following the various CAB social media pages.
