Montserrat no longer eligible for Basic Needs funding

The Caribbean Development Bank has decided that Montserrat will no longer be eligible to receive funding under its Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), as the island’s GDP per capita has increased sufficiently to classify it as a high income country.

Montserrat argues that it is over 50 percent dependent on the British Government and its unique situation needs to be treated uniquely. The government has enlisted the help of the OECS to persuade the CDB to revise its decision.
